MTV reported that the third round of negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, held at the US State Department headquarters in Washington, has concluded amid what were described as sensitive and delicate circumstances.
American sources told the channel that the US administration views this round as the most complex since the launch of the negotiating track, particularly as the ceasefire deadline approaches. Washington believes that any setback in the talks could quickly open the door to renewed tension and military escalation.
The sources stressed that the continuation of the meetings for a second consecutive day, with expanded delegations taking part, reflects both sides’ commitment to keeping negotiation channels open and their conviction that there is value in pursuing this path despite the sensitivity of the issues on the table.
According to the information available, the discussions are no longer limited to consolidating the ceasefire, but have moved on to deeper political and security issues related to the future of southern Lebanon in the post-war phase, and the role of the Lebanese state vis-à-vis Hezbollah within the proposed arrangements.
