President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun, during his meeting with the European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Ms. Hadja Lahbib:
The support provided by European Union countries to Lebanon must be directed toward exerting pressure to compel Israel to cease fire and refrain from blowing up and bulldozing homes in the villages it occupies in the south, as well as from targeting paramedics, journalists, and civil defense personnel.
Lebanon remains committed to a ceasefire and to halting all military actions in order to launch negotiations that would end the current volatile situation in the south, paving the way for the army’s redeployment up to the international border, the release of Lebanese prisoners, and the return of the displaced to their towns and villages.
The heavy human losses resulting from the Israeli attacks on Lebanon have made the need to provide relief to the displaced grow day by day. From this standpoint, Lebanon appeals to brotherly and friendly countries to provide urgent humanitarian and development assistance.
Lebanon thanks the European Union for its constant responsiveness to its needs and for its member states’ commitment to full sovereignty over all Lebanese territory.
The Lebanese are united in the face of the current challenges, committed to their unity, and collectively confronting any attempt to sow discord among them.
