The “Strong Lebanon” bloc held its regular meeting chaired by MP Gebran Bassil, during which it discussed the situation and issued the following statement:
1 - As the Israeli aggression against Lebanon continues, with part of southern Lebanon under occupation, the establishment there of an area devoid of life, and the emergence of further Israeli positions rejecting a ceasefire, the “Strong Lebanon” bloc addressed a question to the government in accordance with the internal regulations, including a series of observations and questions about government policies in light of the war Lebanon is experiencing, particularly with regard to the national defense strategy, the orders given to the army and security agencies, preventing strife, and the economic situation resulting from the war, including food and energy security, as well as the displaced persons file and how it is being managed to prevent internal division, the government’s reconstruction plan, and also the demands of the Lebanese state during the negotiations that the authorities announced they are conducting with Israel.
2 - The bloc stands alongside His Holiness the Supreme Pontiff in his positions on peace and stresses the message and prayer he offered for Lebanon and for peace in it. It also recalls his visit to Lebanon, during which he declared his support for Lebanon’s stability, reconciliation, and coexistence.
The bloc also salutes His Holiness’s religious and moral role in rejecting wars, calling for their end, and establishing peace among peoples, as he is entrusted with the message of the Lord Jesus Christ, who said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”
