From the Bekaa to all of Lebanon... Farmers threaten an open-ended strike in protest against the fuel crisis

Ibrahim Tarshishi, head of the National Federation of Lebanese Farmers, issued an escalatory warning, calling on farmers across various Lebanese regions to prepare for a broad mobilization that could take the form of a general and comprehensive strike, accompanied by road closures, in protest against what he described as a "fabricated fuel crisis" hitting the agricultural sector, particularly in the Bekaa region.

Tarshishi stressed that the continued gasoline and diesel crisis is worsening farmers’ suffering and threatening productive sectors, placing responsibility for the crisis on what he described as "monopolization by some oil companies and an attempt to secure additional profits at the expense of citizens and the national economy."

He emphasized that farmers will not stand idly by in the face of what he called ongoing pressure on their livelihoods, urging the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to address the crisis before the protests spill onto the streets.
