Lebanese MP Fouad Makhzoumi said following his meeting with the President of the Republic at Baabda Palace that implementing the constitution has become “a necessity, not a choice.”
Makhzoumi stressed the need to ban the security and partisan activities of Hezbollah and dismantle its military capabilities, while renewing confidence in the role of the Lebanese Armed Forces in safeguarding stability and national sovereignty.
He added that the presence of weapons does not only threaten internal stability but also negatively affects Lebanon’s foreign relations.
Makhzoumi also noted that direct negotiations with Israel would be an important step, emphasizing that achieving peace requires dialogue and direct negotiations.
He further stressed that maintaining security in Beirut is a priority and a red line, pointing out that state decisions should not remain merely statements without implementation.
He concluded by saying that the state has upheld its commitments while Hezbollah has not, adding that if President Michel Aoun decides that negotiations are the appropriate path forward, “we will support that decision.”
