Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with the American network PBS that Tehran considers the current conflict to be the result of what he described as U.S. aggression, stressing that Iran’s actions fall within the framework of self-defense.
Araghchi noted that Iran had previously warned countries in the region about its position in the event of a U.S. attack, cautioning that continued escalation could expand the war to encompass the entire Middle East. He also argued that the main plans devised by the United States and Israel have failed, and that any new attempts will meet the same fate.
During the interview, he also addressed accusations made by U.S.
President Donald Trump that Iran was responsible for attacking a girls’ school, describing the claim as “ridiculous.”
Araghchi said:
“This war has been imposed on us, and what we are doing is self-defense in the face of an illegal aggression.”
“We had previously warned countries in the region that if the United States attacked us, we would strike its bases and facilities in the Middle East.”
“The main plan of the United States and Israel has failed, and now they are trying other plans, which will also fail.”
“The Americans had promised us before the attack that they did not intend to attack us and that they wanted to resolve the nuclear issue peacefully.”
“The war will expand to include the entire region, and these are the consequences of the American aggression. We are not responsible for that.”
“Trump’s statement that Iran attacked the girls’ school is ridiculous.”
