
One U.S. official told Fox News that "the U.S. strikes in southern Iran do not mean the end of the fragile ceasefire."
Another U.S. official also told CNN that "the strikes were reactive and defensive, and not part of a planned attack."
Those statements came after U.S. Central Command spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins announced in a statement overnight that "the recent strikes were designed to protect U.S. forces from threats posed by Iranian forces against U.S. warplanes."
