The head of the Lebanese Democratic Party, Talal Arslan, said in an exclusive interview with Al Mayadeen that “we are currently losing the Arab reference point; even in the days of the Nakba, six Arab armies intervened, yet they did not have real political cover.”
He asked, “Where is the Arab decision today? Therefore, through Al Mayadeen, I appeal for a plan to preserve what remains,” adding that “the expansionist Israeli project does not stop at geographic, cultural, religious, or historical boundaries.”
He stressed that “the 2002 Beirut Initiative is still valid today, but where is the implementation mechanism?” He continued: “In Lebanon, we tried diplomacy for 15 months... what did it give? What did it achieve? More than 10,000 Israeli violations since the November 27, 2024 agreement... The ‘mechanism’ headed by whom? Do we not have the right to ask what the results of the ‘mechanism’ headed by America are?”
He emphasized: “Before we ask ourselves, as Arabs and Lebanese, we must ask ‘Israel’ whether it is for peace,” adding: “What is happening is disgraceful... Shame on everyone who deceives himself and turns the resistance into a predatory wolf and ‘Israel’ into a meek lamb. This is disgraceful بحق our fathers, our children, our history, our belonging, our blood, and our religion.”
He pointed out that “what is taking place—I do not know what to call it. I am trying to soften it as much as possible because I do not want to bring strife into our midst,” adding: “As much as possible, I try to phrase things delicately, but I cannot escape the truth or allow anyone to fool my mind with illusions.”
He said: “I thank Saudi Arabia and Egypt after they somewhat curbed what is happening,” adding: “I have criticisms of the resistance in politics, but I sit with it so we can discuss matters; I do not deem its blood permissible, nor do I gloat with the enemies over us.”
He affirmed that “political calculations stop before the national position, and whoever wants to obtain a post cannot do so at the expense of people’s blood,” stressing that “it is disgraceful to say that this spilled blood is Shiite blood; rather, it is Lebanese blood.”
He added: “Treason is recognized in every country in the world, except in Lebanon, where it becomes a matter of opinion,” asking: “Did you prepare the army, arm it, and support it before deciding to send it to the south?”
He continued: “As for the liberation of the land, what approach could be easier than stabbing in the back from within Lebanon?” stressing that “when we listen to Lebanese political discourse, we know who wants strife at home.”
He concluded by stressing that “the Israeli wants a civil war and wants us to fight one another again,” emphasizing that “the Lebanese Army is a solid barrier against internal strife,” and asking: “Is the aim to strike the army so that the domestic arena is left exposed?”
