President Joseph Aoun received a phone call this afternoon from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, during which they discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region in light of recent developments, particularly the ongoing preparations for the third meeting in Washington on direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
Prime Minister Carney affirmed Canada’s support for President Aoun’s negotiating initiative and the decisions taken in this regard. He also stressed that Canada stands by Lebanon in the delicate circumstances it is going through and is working to end the suffering of the displaced who were forcibly driven from their villages.
The President thanked the Canadian Prime Minister for the support Lebanon receives from him and from his country in all fields, stressing the bonds of friendship and cooperation linking the two countries, in addition to the strong ties between the Lebanese and Canadian peoples. President Aoun asked Prime Minister Carney to help Lebanon exert pressure on Israel to secure a ceasefire and refrain from targeting civilians, paramedics, humanitarian workers, and journalists, as well as to stop the destruction of the towns and villages it occupies and the bulldozing of their homes.
