President General Joseph Aoun received a phone call this afternoon from the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during which they discussed the latest developments related to the situation in Lebanon following the ceasefire.
During the call, the Emir of Qatar affirmed to President Aoun his support for his positions and for the steps he has taken to halt the military escalation, foremost among them the direct bilateral negotiations aimed at ending military operations, securing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the areas they occupy in the south, and deploying the Lebanese Army up to the southern border, along with other measures that would ensure the extension of the Lebanese state's authority over all its territory. The Emir of Qatar also renewed his country's support for the Lebanese people and its readiness to help end their suffering.
President Aoun thanked the Emir of Qatar for his supportive positions toward Lebanon, which reflect the depth of the fraternal ties binding the two countries and their brotherly peoples. He also expressed his appreciation for Qatar's role in helping achieve what the President is working toward for the benefit of Lebanon and its people, and thanked him for Qatar's ongoing and continuous assistance, particularly that allocated to helping the displaced who were forced to flee their homes and villages.
President Aoun and the Emir of Qatar agreed to remain in contact to follow developments.
