India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced on Thursday the postponement of the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit, which had been scheduled to take place in New Delhi from May 28 to 31, in coordination with the African Union, amid growing health concerns linked to the Ebola virus in a number of African countries.
Although no direct official explanation was issued regarding the reasons for the decision, informed sources said the postponement came as a result of mounting concern over the repercussions of the virus’s spread and the health risks it could pose to participating delegations and activities accompanying the summit.
The development comes as international health authorities continue to monitor the epidemiological situation in some African countries, amid increasing precautionary measures in a number of states in anticipation of any possible further spread of the infection.
