Trump brandishes military option: Iran in the crosshairs of American power

U.S. President Donald Trump said that reaching an agreement with Iran remains the best option, arguing that the alternative could lead to further destruction, while stressing at the same time that the United States holds overwhelming military superiority in any confrontation with Tehran.

Trump said negotiations with Iran sometimes see notable progress, only to falter after Iranian statements denying that talks are taking place or that the nuclear file is being discussed.

He added that the United States is in a position of strength in dealing with Iran, claiming it could destroy most of Iran’s bridges in less than an hour if necessary.

Trump also indicated that Iran could resort to laying naval mines to disrupt shipping, but asserted that Washington maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In the same context, the U.S. president said Iran had suffered severe military blows, stating that its naval and air forces had sustained major destruction and that Iranian military capabilities had declined significantly.
