Well-informed sources told Ad-Diyar that “the possibility of reaching a U.S.-Iran understanding is advancing,” noting that “Trump’s domestic crisis, along with the major Gulf pressure being exerted on him, could lead to a lowering of his negotiating ceiling and conditions, allowing for a preliminary agreement with Iran.”
The sources indicate that “Iran’s insistence on including the Lebanese file in any anticipated understanding is a key clause delaying the achievement of agreements, given that Netanyahu categorically refuses to halt the fighting against Hezbollah and does not appear likely to yield to U.S. pressure, especially amid the worsening internal crisis in Israel, which he can only confront by keeping one of the fronts aflame.”
The sources add that “if the new efforts to achieve a U.S.-Iran understanding fail, Lebanon will be heading toward a war of attrition lasting for months with no horizon, draining Lebanon and Hezbollah on one side, and Israel on the other, amid the heavy losses it is sustaining daily in southern Lebanon.”
