Jaafari Grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Qabalan issued a statement on Thursday in which he said that “the issue is not how we offer condolences for the martyr of national journalism, Amal Khalil, but how this national figure can prevent the ruling clique from betraying her blood and history, and from killing her pen — a pen that would not even accept from the authority of American tutelage the honor of offering condolences for her.”
He said: “All this is taking place amid a Lebanese authority deranged by disgrace in the face of its own people. Therefore, to the political authority in this country I say: you are not among those entitled to mourn, and your condolences will not wipe away all the shame in which you have drowned Lebanon, amid a new round of betrayal of the land, blood, and history through direct negotiations with the murderous Zionist enemy.”
He continued: “And here you are, burning Lebanon and watching it burn. The game of taking shelter behind your new ally will not spare you or our homeland from the flames of a national explosion. As you can see today, nothing is more pleasing to the authority of American tutelage than the game of terrorist destruction and devastation being carried out by the Zionist occupier in some villages along the front line. So where is the authority that claims to be keen on the sovereignty and dignity of its country and its people? Let it be remembered that the authority is the same, the scenario is the same, and the mentality is one and the same!”
Qabalan concluded: “All condolences to the family of the martyr Amal Khalil and to the honorable national press.”
