Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani held a coordination meeting with the Disaster Risk Management Unit, with the participation of the National Council for Scientific Research (CNRS) and representatives from the Food Security and Agriculture sector within the framework of the Lebanon Response Plan (LRP).
Representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) also took part in the meeting.
The meeting aimed to strengthen coordination among national and international stakeholders involved in the agricultural sector and to develop a joint mechanism for conducting a rapid survey and assessment of the conditions of farmers in villages affected by attacks in the South, the Bekaa, and Baalbek–Hermel. The initiative seeks to determine the scale of damages and the urgent needs faced by farmers in these areas.
Participants also discussed ways to identify and monitor areas experiencing the displacement and movement of farmers due to the current circumstances. This would help direct agricultural and humanitarian assistance more accurately and effectively, ensuring timely support for affected farmers.
Hani emphasized the importance of enhancing coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and relevant partners within the framework of the Lebanon Response Plan (LRP), in order to ensure a swift response to the urgent needs of farmers, avoid duplication of interventions, and contribute to protecting agricultural livelihoods while supporting the resilience of rural communities amid the exceptional challenges facing the country.
