Pages on social media circulated a report attributed to Al Arabiya, claiming that the Lebanese government had decided to abolish the border with Syria and allow all Syrians to enter Lebanon without obtaining residency or paying any fees, effective immediately.
However, the Fact Check - Lebanon team at the Ministry of Information examined the content of the report and found that Al Arabiya had not published any such news on its official platforms. A review of Lebanese government decisions also showed that no decision had been issued regarding abolishing the border with Syria or amending entry procedures to allow entry without residency or fees.
Accordingly, the verification team confirms that the circulating report is false and fabricated, and that it comes as part of a series of misleading reports being spread across digital platforms without relying on official sources or credible information.
