Before noon today at Baabda Palace, President General Joseph Aoun received Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam, and the two held wide-ranging talks on the latest security and diplomatic developments. The two presidents also assessed the post-ceasefire phase and the ongoing efforts to consolidate it, including the contacts made by President Aoun with US President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and a number of Arab and foreign leaders.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Salam said that his discussions with President Aoun also addressed Lebanon’s readiness for negotiations, in addition to following up on the implementation of Cabinet decisions, particularly the decision issued at the council’s last session to strengthen the extension of state authority over Beirut Governorate and confine weapons there to the state.
Prime Minister Salam expressed hope that, once the ceasefire holds, the displaced will be able to return safely to their homes as soon as possible, stressing that the Lebanese state will accompany their return and provide everything required to facilitate it, particularly by repairing destroyed bridges, reopening roads, and securing necessities in areas where return will be safe and possible.
