Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati said in a statement to An-Nahar that Lebanon had warned from the outset about the risks of sliding into a war that does not serve its interests, stressing the need to preserve the country’s security and safeguard the interests of its people and state.
Mikati added that Lebanon repeatedly warned against being dragged into a war that does not concern it and emphasized the importance of maintaining the country’s security and protecting the interests of its people and institutions.
However, he said that Lebanon was unfortunately drawn once again into the maze of a new war due to a decision by Hezbollah, instead of learning lessons from the first “support war” and its consequences.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the Lebanese state is working to stop the war by all possible means, stating: “This is not our war, and we were not the ones who chose to enter it. We have been working and continue to work to stop it through all available means.”
Regarding the political track, Mikati confirmed that Lebanon is open to any diplomatic effort that could help stop the escalation, saying: “We are open to any form of negotiations.”
