President Jouzeph Aoun met with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri to discuss the overall internal developments amid the recent security escalation and its wide-ranging implications.
The meeting addressed the consequences of Israeli attacks on critical infrastructure, particularly the vital bridges connecting southern Lebanon to other regions, and the resulting operational and humanitarian impacts. The discussion also focused on the severe social situation caused by mass displacement from southern towns and villages, affecting nearly one million citizens amid ongoing bombardment and destruction.
In this context, both leaders praised the public solidarity in hosting the displaced, alongside the efforts of official institutions and humanitarian and social organizations to meet their needs.
The presidents stressed the importance of maintaining internal cohesion and strengthening national unity, warning against falling for rumors or attempts to destabilize the country, while reaffirming rejection of repeating the painful experiences of the past, especially the civil war.
Following the meeting, Speaker Berri noted that the discussion covered various aspects of the current situation, expressing confidence in the internal scene, saying: “With His Excellency the President, I am reassured.”
