NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte affirmed that the alliance will remain united in the face of any threats or attempts at targeting it, stressing that the response to any attack would be “devastating.”
Rutte said the alliance’s foreign ministers agreed on the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, given its vital importance to global trade and energy flows.
He added that NATO intends to provide support to the countries concerned in the region in order to ensure the continued safe and stable movement of maritime navigation.
In this context, he considered that any attack on freedom of navigation affects all member states, pointing to the importance of coordinating international efforts to develop plans that guarantee keeping the Strait of Hormuz permanently open to shipping traffic.
