Official Lebanese sources said that Lebanon’s position on the course of the negotiations in Washington remains tied to the outcome of the anticipated round on June 2 and 3, and to the effectiveness of U.S. pressure in pushing Israel to halt its attacks.
The sources indicated that Lebanon has no interest in boycotting these negotiations, considering that any such step could have negative repercussions and serve Israel’s interests.
In the same context, they explained that Beirut has not yet made a final decision on suspending its participation if Israel fails to honor its commitments, noting that withdrawing from the negotiating table could allow Israel to expand its positioning in a number of southern towns.
