U.S. President Donald Trump spoke to CBS about the shooting incident at the Hilton Hotel on Saturday, describing the suspect as an extremist and anti-Christian.
Trump said that "the Democrats' hate-filled rhetoric is very dangerous for the country."
He added: "I read a statement by the shooter during the dinner event. He became radicalized. He was a Christian and then became anti-Christian."
He continued: "I am a big fan of law enforcement personnel. Their response was swift, it was amazing, and they were extremely professional."
He stressed: "I was not concerned about the possibility of injuries after hearing gunfire at the hotel."
Trump explained that "the White House Correspondents' Dinner should be rescheduled within 30 days, with enhanced security measures."
According to Trump, "the attacker's brother and sister had previously informed police about his suspicious behavior."
A senior U.S. official revealed on Sunday that investigators found writings and posts on the accounts of the suspect in the shooting incident, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, containing anti-Trump and anti-Christian rhetoric, in addition to explicit calls to target government officials.
The official noted that Allen had sent some of these writings to members of his family before the attack, prompting one of them to notify the police, despite no direct reference being made to the location of the incident.
The official said that Allen belonged to a group known as "The Wide Awakes" and took part in a protest titled "No Kings" in the state of California.
