German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul revealed that his country and France are working to formulate a joint initiative aimed at enhancing the prospects for peace in Lebanon, as part of a European effort to unify the position toward Lebanese and regional developments.
Wadephul explained in a press interview that "Germany and France want to formulate a joint policy toward Lebanon," with the aim of helping increase the chances of stability and peace in the Middle East, without disclosing further details about the substance of the initiative or the mechanisms for its implementation.
The broad outlines of this initiative are expected to be announced during the German-French ministerial council meeting scheduled for July 17, where the Lebanese file is expected to be one of the most prominent topics of discussion between the two sides.
