Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Gebran Bassil received Norway’s ambassador to Lebanon, Ms. Hilde Haraldstad, accompanied by First Secretary Mr. Eirik Sandaa, in the presence of MP Cesar Abi Khalil.
Talks during the meeting focused on regional developments amid the ongoing war in Lebanon and the region, and on the importance of international efforts to achieve de-escalation.
Bassil stressed the need to fully and permanently consolidate the ceasefire in Lebanon in a way that safeguards internal stability and prevents a slide into a broader confrontation, considering that any solution must begin with respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty, the unity of its territory, its liberation across its full 10,452 sq km, and the securing of reconstruction.
The meeting also addressed international efforts aimed at containing the escalation, with Ambassador Haraldstad expressing her country’s interest in supporting the path of de-escalation and underscoring the importance of diplomatic solutions and halting military operations, given their essential role in protecting Lebanon and the region from further deterioration. In this context, Bassil handed the ambassador the Movement’s proposal for protecting Lebanon.
