
President Michel Aoun received Nicolas Von Arx, the Regional Director for the Near and Middle East at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), at Baabda Palace.
After the meeting, Nicolas Von Arx stated:
“The humanitarian situation in Lebanon is deteriorating rapidly, and civilians are paying the highest price.”
“Repeated displacement in the south and the suburbs continues amid fear and ongoing pressures; this reality cannot become normal.”
“It is essential to protect civilians and ensure their safe return once hostilities cease.”
“Water is being provided to over 800,000 people, basic aid to around 10,000, and support to hospitals.”
“Work continues in the south, particularly in Tebnine and Marjeyoun, amid concerns over disruptions to aid and health services.”
“We commend the Lebanese Red Cross and the courage of its volunteers in saving lives.”
“Lebanon faces serious humanitarian challenges, and continued international support is essential; the ICRC remains committed to its humanitarian work and presence on the ground.”
President Aoun thanked Nicolas Von Arx for the distinguished role played by the ICRC under these difficult circumstances, in partnership with the Lebanese Red Cross, where volunteers courageously provide essential medical aid and humanitarian assistance.
The President also emphasized the importance of supporting the residents of the south in their villages and towns, ensuring necessary aid to strengthen their resilience.
