United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the United States and Iran to resume peace talks and make a serious effort to reach a lasting settlement to the conflict in the Middle East.
Guterres said, via his account on the platform X: "After weeks of destruction and suffering, it has become clear that there is no military solution to the current conflict in the Middle East," calling for "the resumption of talks in order to reach an agreement."
He also stressed that "the current two-week ceasefire must be fully maintained," underscoring "the need to halt all violations," and considering that "all parties to the conflict must respect freedom of navigation, including in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with international law."
