Fadi Abou Chaqra, representative of fuel distributors in Lebanon, appealed to the government to reconsider the taxes imposed on gasoline, amid the global rise in oil prices and the accompanying repercussions linked to geopolitical conditions and higher shipping and insurance costs.
Abou Chaqra pointed out that gasoline prices have seen a noticeable increase, with the price of a fuel can exceeding $28, warning of the continued instability in global markets and its direct repercussions on the local market.
He stressed that this increase constitutes an additional burden on citizens who are already facing severe economic and living crises, further intensifying the daily pressure on various segments of society.
He noted that the impact of rising fuel prices is not limited to vehicle owners alone, but extends to various productive and service sectors, leading to a slowdown in economic activity and weaker demand in the markets.
He concluded by calling on the government to take swift and effective steps to ease the severity of the crisis, and to adopt a realistic approach that takes into account the difficult social and economic conditions and limits the negative repercussions of rising global energy prices on the Lebanese people.
