Diplomatic sources told Al Jadeed that the anticipated meeting on Thursday at the US State Department will be limited to discussing the consolidation of the ceasefire agreement, without addressing any additional files.
According to the sources, this preliminary meeting could open the door to setting a date for the first round of direct negotiations, or it could lead to a third preparatory meeting if the required understandings are not finalized.
In the same context, the information indicated that the negotiation file between Lebanon and Israel remains highly complex, noting that the only constant so far within the negotiating delegation is Ambassador Simon Karam.
The sources also explained that the possibility of extending the ceasefire deadline is under discussion during the Washington meeting, but that the overall course remains tied to the results of the ongoing meetings in Islamabad.
