The Amal Movement called on the relevant Lebanese officials to reverse the decision to expel the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, warning that such a move could plunge the country into a political and national crisis.
In a statement, the movement said it would have been more appropriate for officials to declare a state of diplomatic emergency at the international level to confront what the Israeli Defense Minister announced, boasting about the destruction of all bridges along the Litani River and declaring intentions to occupy 10% of Lebanon’s territory and establish a buffer zone extending to south of the Litani.
The statement added that, in a move described as unusual and suspicious in timing, officials instead chose to target a “diplomatic bridge” by giving the Iranian ambassador until Sunday to leave, without even condemning the ongoing Israeli aggression on Lebanon, which has displaced a third of its population unjustly.
It further noted that Israeli officials were among the first to praise this step, calling for even more such actions.
The movement stressed that, at this critical national moment, all parties—especially officials—should work to strengthen unity and solidarity in the face of Israeli aggression. It urged an immediate reversal of the decision to avoid a political crisis, emphasizing that “reversing a mistake is a national virtue.”
Amal also reaffirmed its rejection of any form of direct negotiations with Israel, stating that the “mechanism committee” remains the practical and executive framework for halting Israeli aggression and implementing the full terms of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement, which it said Israel has not honored.
The statement concluded by thanking all Lebanese citizens, particularly those in host areas in Beirut, Mount Lebanon, and the North, for their awareness and efforts to prevent strife and reinforce national unity, described as the cornerstone for preserving Lebanon as a final homeland for all its people.
