US President Donald Trump said in a post on the Truth Social platform that the ongoing negotiations with Iran over its nuclear file are proceeding in an "orderly and constructive" manner, stressing that he had instructed his representatives not to rush into concluding any agreement because "time is on Washington's side."
Trump said the nuclear deal signed during former President Barack Obama's administration was "one of the worst agreements the United States has ever made," arguing that it set Iran on a path toward developing nuclear capabilities, in his words.
He explained that the agreement currently under negotiation is entirely different, affirming that US policy is based on firmness and clarity, and that "the blockade imposed on Iran will remain in effect, in full force, until a final agreement is reached, signed, and ratified."
Trump added that relations with the Iranian side have become more professional and productive, but at the same time stressed that Iran must "not be allowed to develop or possess a nuclear weapon under any circumstances."
He also expressed his thanks to Middle Eastern countries for what he described as support and cooperation, pointing to the possibility of expanding the path of the historic Abraham Accords and not ruling out Iran joining them in the future.
In remarks to ABC, Trump said the final decision on any agreement with Iran "rests entirely with him," adding that "any news about the deal will only be positive," while again emphasizing that sanctions will remain in place until a final agreement is reached.
