A statement was issued by Lebanese Forces party leader Samir Geagea, reading as follows:
In recent days, we have repeatedly heard some say that they are not concerned with any negotiations Lebanon is conducting or any agreements it may enter into. To those people we say: we are not concerned with your words or anything you do, except insofar as it has brought disasters upon Lebanon and the Lebanese.
Lebanon has a parliament elected in a democratic and genuine manner, and it represents the Lebanese people in the best possible way. This parliament elected President Joseph Aoun with a majority of 99 votes out of 128, and it then went on to grant confidence to the current government twice in succession by a margin exceeding two-thirds. Accordingly, those who represent the Lebanese are the President of the Republic and the government, each in accordance with the powers granted to them by the Constitution.
As for whoever says they are not concerned with the legitimate and constitutional negotiations being conducted by the President of the Republic in cooperation and solidarity with the Prime Minister and the government, what they are really saying is that they disavow Lebanon as a state, the majority of the Lebanese, and by extension Lebanon as a nation.
Whoever does not recognize what Lebanon's legitimate president and legitimate government are doing does not recognize the existence of a state in Lebanon. It remains for the officials of the Lebanese state to act on this basis.
