The Spanish Ministry of Health announced a confirmed case of hantavirus in a Spanish citizen who was evacuated from the cruise ship "MV Hondius" and is currently under medical isolation in Madrid, according to the US network CNN.
Authorities said the patient was among a group of Spanish passengers who were placed in quarantine after the virus spread on board the ship, making him the second Spaniard confirmed to have contracted the disease.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that the case was detected through the approved health surveillance system, noting that the level of risk to the population remains low.
Health authorities in several countries are monitoring the condition of passengers and crew members after three people died following the cruise, which departed from Argentina last April.
