The Arab Parliament condemned Israel’s move to appoint an envoy to what is known as "Somaliland," considering the step a serious infringement on national sovereignty and an undermining of the unity of Somali territory amid growing regional complexities.
In a strongly worded statement, the parliament warned of the repercussions of such moves, which it said would fuel separatist tendencies and create an illegitimate political reality, stressing its commitment to the principles of international law and respect for state sovereignty.
It affirmed: "This matter constitutes a flagrant violation of the rules of international law, and an unacceptable and condemnable assault on Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity."
It stressed its "categorical rejection of any measures or moves aimed at entrenching a separatist reality or recognizing illegitimate entities in the Republic of Somalia."
It also announced its "full support for Somalia in whatever measures it takes to preserve its unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and its rejection of any external interference in its internal affairs."
It called for clear international action, saying: "The Arab Parliament calls on the international community to assume its responsibilities and take a clear and explicit position in condemning and rejecting these violations that threaten the security, stability, and sovereignty of states."
