President General Joseph Aoun received Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam before noon today at Baabda Palace, where they reviewed the country’s general situation and the security developments in the south in light of the continuing Israeli attacks and their expansion to a number of southern towns and villages, particularly in the districts of Tyre and Nabatieh, in addition to the ongoing demolition and blowing up of homes and the destruction of historical landmarks in the south. They also discussed the continuing threats targeting civilians and the repeated calls for them to leave their homes and livelihoods. Presidents Aoun and Salam agreed to intensify contacts to put an end to these condemned Israeli practices.
The two leaders also assessed the meeting held in Washington between the Lebanese, American, and Israeli military delegations and the discussions that took place there, during which the Lebanese side reaffirmed its commitment to the priority of a ceasefire. Their talks also addressed the ongoing preparations for the next round of negotiations on June 2 and 3.
The meeting also reviewed the security situation in the country and the daily follow-up on the conditions of those forcibly displaced from their homes and property.
