The Political Bureau held its regular meeting under the chairmanship of party leader MP Sami Gemayel, during which it discussed the political and security developments and the current situation in the country, then issued the following statement:
1- The Political Bureau reiterates its support for President General Joseph Aoun in the course of negotiations, and its confidence in his management of the details of this process in accordance with the requirements of the constitution and Lebanon’s interest in terms of halting attacks, securing the release of prisoners, ensuring an Israeli withdrawal, reconstruction, and the return of the displaced.
The Political Bureau stresses the need to implement government decisions and to effectively begin confining arms to the hands of the state, and dismantling the security and military apparatus of the banned Hezbollah militia, considering this an essential and indispensable condition for the success of the negotiations and the revival of the economy.
2- The Political Bureau rejects campaigns of treason accusations and the rhetoric of hatred and animosity sponsored by the banned Hezbollah militia, most recently the campaign that targeted the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and finally Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi in a failed attempt to provoke sectarian strife, which quickly turned into comprehensive national solidarity with Bkerki, proving that attempts to divert attention from the core of the problem no longer bear fruit and that the Lebanese reject continued violations of the constitution and laws and departures from legitimacy and national accords.
In the same context, the Political Bureau condemns the attack on Our Lady Church in Ajaltoun and calls on the security forces to uncover the identity of those responsible and impose the necessary penalties on them.
3- Accordingly, the Political Bureau affirms that it is no longer possible to coexist with the weapons of the banned Hezbollah militia, after experience has shown that they bring Lebanon risks, destruction, occupations, and tragedies in service of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
