Iran Signals a Ground Confrontation with America: From a War of Attrition to Testing the Battlefield

Brig. Gen. Asadi, the former deputy for inspection affairs at Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, announced that the confrontation with the United States remains within the framework of a “war of attrition,” noting that Tehran is relying on time and patience in what he described as a “long-term battle.”

Asadi said that “defeating the Great Satan requires steadfastness and waiting for the right circumstances,” adding that Iran is looking ahead to a stage in which US ground forces would be in a position that would allow them to be confronted on the ground.

In remarks carrying an escalatory tone, he said that the confrontation reaching the stage of capturing American soldiers inside Iranian territory would be “a historic day” for Iranians, in his words.

At the same time, the former Iranian official stressed that despite his country’s military capabilities, it is keen to avoid targeting civilians, affirming that its operations target what he described as “the sites of the Great Satan,” in reference to the United States, while emphasizing its respect for the peoples and countries of the region, particularly Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
