Prime Minister Nawaf Salam made a series of statements from the Elysee Palace during his visit and the press conference with Macron, addressing developments in Lebanon, international relations, and the support required at the current stage.
At the start of his remarks, Salam said: “I offered my condolences to Macron over the death of the French soldier serving in the UNIFIL forces, and this incident will not go unpunished.”
He added: “Lebanon is fighting a war it did not choose but that was imposed on it, and I stressed to the French president the need to respect the terms of the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon.”
Regarding urgent needs, he explained: “A conference to support the Lebanese army and security agencies has become an urgent necessity today, and Lebanon needs 500 million euros to confront the humanitarian crisis over the next six months.”
He also addressed the political and diplomatic track, saying: “We will continue to pursue the path of diplomacy through direct talks with Israel, and the negotiations will be arduous and will require effective support from partners.”
He concluded by stressing the domestic position, saying: “We are not seeking a confrontation with Hezbollah, but we will not allow it to intimidate us.”
