Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny held a meeting this afternoon in his office at the ministry with Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Bisat, in the presence of Director-General of Land and Maritime Transport Dr. Ahmad Tamer and Director-General of Roads and Buildings Engineer Pierre Maalouf, devoted to discussing the full range of files related to transport and border crossings between Lebanon and Syria.
During the meeting, a number of key issues were discussed, most notably the situation at the border crossings and the existing obstacles, particularly the cut-off bridges, with emphasis on the need for joint coordination to reactivate these crossings and resume normal operations.
The discussions also addressed the land transport file between the two countries, particularly the regulation of goods transport and the fees imposed on it, as well as ways to strengthen joint coordination in this vital sector.
The meeting also touched on matters related to taxis, particularly boosting the movement of people and facilitating the travel of arrivals between the two countries.
These efforts are expected to continue through an anticipated visit to the capital, Damascus, where the conclusions of the meeting will be presented to the Syrian side to pursue discussions and take the necessary steps.
Separately, Minister Rasamny received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, Hilde Haraldstad. The meeting reviewed the current situation and existing challenges, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Lebanon and the Kingdom of Norway, particularly in sectors related to the ministry's work, and to expand areas of coordination in line with the requirements of the current phase, especially in light of the support provided by the Kingdom of Norway in a number of vital fields.
