The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Beirut, Iyad Al‑Hazzāʿ, held a meeting with Lebanon’s Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Judge Jamal Al‑Hajjar, during which they discussed the mechanisms for implementing the agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons between the two countries.
The meeting addressed ways to activate the agreement signed between Syria and Lebanon on February 6, 2026, with a particular focus on handling the files of prisoners covered by its provisions, in preparation for initiating the handover procedures between the competent authorities in both countries.
Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening judicial cooperation and enhancing coordination among the relevant institutions to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement while safeguarding the rights of the sentenced individuals in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks.
