Trump tests Americans’ pulse: Is he paving the way for a third term?

U.S. President Donald Trump has reopened the door to speculation about his political future after jokingly suggesting the possibility of seeking a third presidential term, while stressing at the same time that his remarks were made in jest.

During a reception for White House correspondents, Trump said his second term was “better than the first,” adding: “As with my presidency, the second time is always better, and the third time would be much better,” before clarifying to those present that his talk of another term was merely a joke.

Trump had previously stirred widespread controversy over the possibility of running in the 2028 election after appearing wearing a hat bearing the slogan “Trump 2028,” prompting supporters and observers to question his next political intentions.
