Iran on Thursday rejected the statement issued by the Gulf Cooperation Council regarding developments related to the Strait of Hormuz, saying the positions it contained do not reflect the reality of the escalating tensions in the region.
In an official statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the measures adopted by Tehran fall within the framework of "self-defense," amid what it described as mounting pressure and threats it is facing.
The ministry said that "the GCC's positions do not reflect the reality of tensions in the region," adding that its moves are aimed at protecting its national security and strategic interests in light of increasing pressure and threats.
It added that "the governments of the GCC states must take practical steps to build trust with Iran, rather than adopting escalatory positions," stressing the importance of regional dialogue as a primary means of easing tensions and ensuring the region's stability.
