
Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Gebran Bassil received Australian Ambassador to Lebanon Tom Wilson, in the presence of Vice President for Relations with Foreign Parties Dr. Naji Hayek, Bassil’s office director Pascale Dhourouj, and Mr. Rami Moneim, in a courtesy visit.
During the meeting, they reviewed the general situation in Lebanon amid the current challenges and the security developments linked to the ongoing war in the south and its repercussions on internal stability. They also discussed the international efforts being made to consolidate the ceasefire and the need to protect Lebanese sovereignty over its entire territory within the area of 10,452 square kilometers.
Bassil stressed the importance of the international community’s role in supporting Lebanon and protecting it from looming dangers, in addition to the internal role played by the Movement in calming the domestic scene, as embodied in the “Proposal to Protect Lebanon.” During the meeting, Bassil handed the ambassador a copy of the proposal.
For his part, the Australian ambassador expressed his country’s keenness to follow developments in Lebanon, affirming Australia’s continued support for stability there, as well as for humanitarian and development efforts, while emphasizing the importance of dialogue among the various Lebanese parties to overcome this delicate phase.
