According to MTV sources, Lebanon has so far received no response from Israel to its attempt, via U.S. intermediaries, to designate the remaining populated border areas as a No Fire Zone.
Sources indicated that the Lebanese effort, mediated by the Vatican and the mechanism with Israel, failed, as Tel Aviv refused to leave a safe passage open to the border areas out of three available routes. Military developments suggest the passages could be blocked or surrounded by Israeli forces, forcing the Lebanese army to reposition its troops along the border.
The army also kept 50 personnel in civilian roles to manage the dispensary in Rmeish and possibly in Ain Ebel, with the Prime Minister personally coordinating late into the night with the mayors of both towns to ensure the continued presence of security forces in these areas.
