Jaafari Grand Mufti Ahmad Qabalan warned of the danger of what he described as “unilateralism” in managing national affairs, considering internal consensus the top priority for protecting Lebanon and preventing strife amid tense regional conditions.
Qabalan accused the Lebanese authorities of yielding to American and Israeli influence, saying Washington and Tel Aviv are seeking to create an internal breach that threatens civil peace. He warned against any political or security course that runs counter to the “national umbrella” and Lebanon’s supreme interests.
He stressed that the solution must lie in dialogue and consensus, not rupture, emphasizing that any authority that loses national unity “falls.” He also criticized any negotiations with Israel conducted while boycotting the “resistance,” saying this contributes to the destruction of the country.
Qabalan also underscored the importance of protecting the Lebanese Army and preserving its unifying role, warning against what he called “American projects” to penetrate the military institution, and calling for caution over what is taking place behind the scenes of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations.
He said that excluding key components of the country threatens the Lebanese formula and places Lebanon before the danger of division or civil war, calling on political forces and the Lebanese people to prevent what he termed the “game of external suicide.”
In the conclusion of his statement, Qabalan said Speaker Nabih Berri constitutes a “safety valve” in managing internal crises, warning against antagonizing him and affirming that dialogue through him represents لبنان’s “path to salvation”.
