Ministry of Public Works: The Jounieh road expansion project is being completed by the Council for Development and Reconstruction, and the ministry is ready to contribute to its funding as soon as the file is ready.
In clarification of what has been circulated in some media outlets and on social media platforms regarding the Jounieh road expansion project, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport wishes to confirm the following:
First: The Jounieh road expansion project is one of the projects entrusted to the Council for Development and Reconstruction, which is responsible for preparing its technical, administrative, and financial file and for carrying out all related procedures in accordance with the applicable rules.
Second: The role of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, stemming from its national responsibilities in developing the road network and improving infrastructure, is to follow up and coordinate. It also expresses its readiness to cooperate and contribute to securing the necessary funding sources once the file is completed by the Council for Development and Reconstruction and its technical and administrative requirements are fulfilled.
Third: With regard to what has been raised about the cancellation of the loan allocated to the project, the ministry confirms that this matter does not fall under its responsibility. Rather, it is linked to the contracting mechanism and the loan conditions between the Council for Development and Reconstruction and the financing party, along with the specific obligations and procedures that accompany them.
It has become clear that the loan was canceled at the request of the financing party, not at the request of the Lebanese state.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport, while reaffirming its full commitment to supporting all priority development projects, calls for accuracy in the circulation of information and confirms its readiness to cooperate with all concerned parties in a manner that serves the public interest.
