
An official source voiced concern to Nidaa Al Watan over the trajectory of the situation in the south, amid the ongoing escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, warning that this could lead to an expansion of the confrontation and push it beyond the border areas. At the same time, the Lebanese state still takes comfort in American assurances that the capital, Beirut, its suburbs, and civilians will be spared targeting, while noting that these guarantees may not hold for long and could collapse at any moment. The source clarified that no official position has been issued regarding the Washington talks and the Aoun-Netanyahu meeting, pointing out that logic dictates such a meeting should come as the culmination of an agreement and after negotiations, not before them.
