The escalation between Tehran and Washington has entered a new phase after the Iranian army vowed what it described as a "decisive" response following the killing of seven of its personnel and the wounding of others in a US missile attack targeting a military barracks in the city of Iranshahr in southeastern Iran, according to Iranian media reports.
In a statement carried by the Tasnim news agency, the Iranian army's ground forces said the attack on the Bambur barracks "will not go unanswered," stressing that the response would come "at the appropriate time and in a decisive manner," without disclosing the nature of the steps Tehran might take.
According to the Iranian statement, the barracks was targeted at dawn on Wednesday by 13 US missiles, which directly struck dormitories and living quarters for ground forces personnel, resulting in deaths and injuries among the troops.
