U.S. sources confirmed that the Iranian proposal sets a one-month deadline for negotiations on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, ending the U.S. naval blockade, and bringing a permanent end to the war in Iran and Lebanon.
Two sources familiar with the matter told Axios that, under the Iranian proposal, only after such an agreement is reached would an additional month of negotiations be launched in an attempt to reach a deal on the nuclear program, the sources said.
It is worth noting that U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Saturday that he could order new military action against Iran if it “misbehaves.”
Trump’s remarks came as the United States and Iran continue to exchange drafts of a framework agreement to end the war, while Trump is also still seriously considering ordering new military action against Iran in an effort to break the current deadlock.
When Trump was asked whether he would order new strikes, he said: “If they misbehave, if they do something bad — but right now, we’ll see. It could happen, certainly.”
