
Foreign Minister and Emigrants Youssef Rajji visited the headquarters of the Sovereign Order of Malta in the Italian capital, Rome, where he held a meeting with Grand Chancellor Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, in the presence of the Order’s ambassador to Lebanon, Maria Cortese, and Lebanon’s ambassador to the Holy See, Dr. Fadi Assaf.
The meeting reviewed the depth of the existing relations between Lebanon and the Order, and ways to develop areas of cooperation, particularly in humanitarian and social affairs, in a manner that enhances the response to growing needs in Lebanon.
Minister Rajji expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Order in spreading a culture of peace and consolidating the values of human solidarity, praising the projects and initiatives it is implementing across various Lebanese regions, especially those directed at the most vulnerable groups.
He also gave a comprehensive presentation on the difficult humanitarian conditions Lebanon is experiencing, stressing the importance of continued support for the southern regions, including villages with a Christian majority, given its role in strengthening residents’ resilience and preserving the diversity that constitutes one of the pillars of Lebanese identity based on coexistence and pluralism.
For his part, di Montecupo affirmed the Knights of Malta’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian and development programs in Lebanon, pointing to its readiness to expand the scope of its assistance to include displaced people and southern border villages, in light of the delicate circumstances the country is going through.
