The Directorate General of Land and Maritime Transport announced that the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), during its 111th meeting held at the organization’s headquarters in London on May 15, approved Lebanon’s fulfillment of the requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), relating to the quality and accreditation of Lebanese maritime certificates.
This achievement comes as a result of the direct follow-up and continued support of Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rassamni, who gave this file special attention and oversaw the completion of the necessary requirements and procedures in a way that strengthens Lebanon’s presence and standing within the International Maritime Organization. He also dispatched a delegation from the Directorate General of Land and Maritime Transport, headed by Director General of Land and Maritime Transport Dr. Ahmad Tamer, to follow up on the file in coordination with the Lebanese Embassy in London and to participate in the technical and administrative meetings related to the evaluation process and compliance with the requirements of the international convention.
This decision confirms Lebanon’s commitment to the international standards adopted in the maritime transport sector. It also enhances the standing of Lebanese maritime certificates, reinforces the confidence of the international maritime community in Lebanese competencies, and opens the way for Lebanese seafarers to continue working in global maritime markets in accordance with the highest international standards.
In a statement, the Directorate General of Land and Maritime Transport thanked all the experts, technical and administrative staff, and the Lebanese Embassy in London who contributed to completing this file, reflecting Lebanon’s commitment to maintaining its presence and position in the international maritime sector.
